Holiday Advertising

Now that Valentine's day has passed, I started to think about how important advertising and marketing is for the holiday's. I think that each holiday becomes more and more popular from promoting and is emphasized through different companies advertising. Many holidays are important because there is a meaning or historical connection to it, however, I think that these holidays still gain popularity because of the emphasis that advertising puts on them. When you think of holidays, you think of gifts, food, decorations, etc., and all of these items are products that companies advertise during the holiday times so that consumers can go out and buy them. Many holidays have become much more of a celebration of shopping than the celebration of the true meaning of what the holiday really is. Companies have also jumped at the opportunity to create shopping days like Black Friday and Cyber Monday, which is right after Thanksgiving, so that consumers will go out at 2 am just to get the best sale. It just gives more opportunities for companies to gain profit and create superficial meaning to holidays than to celebrate things like family, health, and happiness.
